Recent External Cladding Project: A Stunning Transformation

At Home Improvements, we take pride in delivering high-quality external cladding solutions that enhance both the aesthetics and durability of properties. In our latest project, we had the opportunity to transform a [type of building, e.g., residential home, commercial property] with our premium cladding, providing a modern, weather-resistant, and low-maintenance finish.

Before installing the new cladding, our team carefully removed the existing exterior panels to assess the structure beneath. It’s essential to properly strip away old cladding to ensure a smooth, secure, and long-lasting new installation.

Step 1: Assessing the Existing Cladding

We began by inspecting the condition of the existing cladding to determine the best removal approach. This step helped us identify any damaged areas, trapped moisture, or structural concerns that needed addressing before proceeding.

Step 2: Safe & Efficient Removal

Using specialist tools, we carefully detached the old panels, ensuring that no damage was caused to the underlying framework or insulation. This process involved:
Removing fixings and trims to loosen the panels
Checking the substrate for any necessary repairs
Disposing of old materials responsibly in accordance with waste management regulations

Step 3: Preparing for the New Cladding

With the old cladding removed, we cleaned and prepped the surface to ensure a stable and even base for the new panels. Any necessary repairs or reinforcements were made to guarantee maximum durability and weather resistance for the new installation.

After removing the existing cladding and preparing the surface, the next step was battening out the building to create a secure and well-ventilated structure for the new cladding. For this project, we installed horizontal timber battens, ensuring a strong foundation while allowing for proper air circulation behind the cladding.

Step 1: Selecting the Right Battens

To ensure durability and stability, we used high-quality, treated timber battens that offer:
Moisture Resistance – Preventing damp buildup and rot
Structural Strength – Providing a solid framework for the cladding panels
Even Support – Ensuring a smooth and level installation

Step 2: Installing the Horizontal Battens

Unlike vertical battening, horizontal battens were used to provide a sturdy base for fixing the cladding while maintaining consistent airflow behind the panels. The installation process involved:
Measuring and marking the correct batten positions for uniform spacing
Fixing battens securely to the building’s structure at even intervals
Leaving ventilation gaps at the top and bottom to allow airflow

Step 3: Creating a Ventilated Cavity

Proper ventilation is key to preventing moisture retention behind the cladding. By spacing the horizontal battens correctly and leaving airflow gaps, we ensured:
Continuous Air Circulation – Reducing the risk of condensation buildup
Enhanced Insulation Efficiency – Helping regulate temperature behind the cladding
Extended Cladding Lifespan – Preventing warping or degradation over time

Fitting the Oak Slatted Composite Cladding

With the horizontal battens securely in place, the final stage of the installation was fitting the Oak Slatted Composite Cladding. This step required precision and attention to detail to achieve a seamless, modern, and weather-resistant finish.

Step 1: Preparing for Installation

Before fitting the cladding panels, we ensured:
✔ The battens were level and evenly spaced for a secure fit
Ventilation gaps were maintained at the top and bottom for airflow
✔ All necessary fixings and trims were ready for a smooth installation

Step 2: Fixing the First Cladding Panel

The installation started from the bottom of the structure, ensuring a level foundation for the rest of the panels.
✔ The first board was carefully positioned and checked with a spirit level
✔ Securely fixed to the battens using stainless steel screws or hidden fixings
✔ A small expansion gap was left to allow for natural movement

Step 3: Installing the Remaining Panels

Each additional board was locked into place above the previous one, creating a clean, slatted effect.
Even spacing was maintained between each slat for a uniform look
Fixings were concealed for a professional, seamless finish
Corner and edge trims were added to ensure a polished, watertight result

Step 4: Final Checks & Finishing Touches

Once the cladding was fully installed, we carried out:
✔ A full inspection to ensure all boards were securely fitted
Cleaning of the surface to remove any dust or installation marks
✔ A final check on ventilation gaps to confirm optimal airflow

The result? A stunning, contemporary exterior that not only enhances the building’s appearance but also offers long-lasting durability and low maintenance.

A Stunning Finish & A Happy Customer

With the Oak Slatted Composite Cladding fully installed, the transformation was complete – and the results were nothing short of exceptional. The sleek, contemporary slatted design added a modern and stylish touch to the exterior, while the high-quality composite material ensures durability for years to come.

The customer was thrilled with the final outcome, praising the seamless installation, premium finish, and low-maintenance benefits of the new cladding. Not only has this project enhanced the property's appearance, but it has also provided a weather-resistant and long-lasting solution that will stand the test of time.
