It depends on the job. uPVC is the most popular choice for replacement windows: it’s low maintenance, well insulated and the most cost-effective. Aluminium has slimmer, stronger frames that let in more light, so it suits extensions, renovations and modern homes, but it costs more. On a standard (lipped) casement, the opening sash overlaps the frame. On a flush casement, it sits level inside the frame, like a traditional timber window. Flush casements look neater and suit cottages, period homes and anywhere you want a heritage feel, without the painting and upkeep of timber.

They’re great for upstairs rooms and modern homes. Turn the handle one way and the top tilts inwards for safe, secure ventilation. Turn it the other way and the whole window swings open into the room, so you can clean the outside glass from indoors. They’re especially popular in black and anthracite grey.

Every window comes double glazed as standard. You can also choose obscure or frosted glass for bathrooms and front-facing rooms, toughened or laminated safety glass, acoustic glass to cut road noise, and solar control glass for rooms that get too much sun.

Not always. Misting between the panes means the seal on the glass unit has failed. If the frame is still sound, we can usually replace just the sealed unit, which costs much less than a new window. If the frame is old, draughty or damaged, a full replacement is better value in the long run

It’s actually a good sign. Condensation on the outside usually forms on cool, clear mornings when the outer pane is colder than the air around it. That happens because your double glazing is keeping the heat inside instead of letting it leak out through the glass. It clears on its own as the day warms up.

It’s caused by moisture in the air inside your home, from cooking, showers and drying clothes, settling on the coldest surface in the room. Opening the trickle vents (fitted as standard on our windows), using extractor fans and airing rooms all help. If the condensation is between the panes, the sealed unit has failed and needs replacing.

It depends on the house. Clean openings, like new builds and extensions, go in quicker than replacements in older homes, where you can’t always tell what’s behind the old frames until they come out. Our surveyor will give you a realistic idea of how long your job will take when they come out to measure and quote.

Yes. When we fit your new windows, we remove the old ones and take them away with us, so there’s nothing left for you to sort out.

Yes. Replacement windows in England have to meet Building Regulations. Our fitters are Certass registered, which means we can certify the work ourselves. You don’t need to deal with building control, and you’ll get a certificate to confirm the installation complies. Hang on to it, because you’ll need it if you ever sell the house.
