MEASURING GUIDE

How to Measure for Internal Doors

Before using the Internal Door Builder, take a few quick measurements so you can choose the right size more confidently. If you are replacing an existing door, measure the current door and check the frame before ordering.

Please note: Measurements are the customer’s responsibility. This guide is only to help you take basic starting measurements. Do not make your own deductions unless you are confident, or your joiner/fitter has advised you to.

Final trimming, fitting gaps and clearances can vary depending on the frame, floor level, hinges and door type.

  • Measure the width

Measure the existing door or the inside of the frame opening at the top, middle and bottom. Use the smallest measurement as your guide, as frames are not always perfectly square.

  • Measure the height

Measure from the top of the opening down to the floor in at least two places. Use the smallest measurement, especially if the floor is uneven or if carpet, laminate or thresholds may affect the fit.

  • Check the door thickness

If you are replacing an existing internal door, measure the thickness of the current door. Many internal doors are around 35mm thick, but you should always check before ordering.

  • Check the frame condition

Look at whether the frame is square, damaged, twisted or out of level. If the frame is not straight, the door may need trimming or fitting by a joiner.

  • Check floor clearance

Think about carpet, underlay, laminate, tiles or thresholds. These can affect the gap needed at the bottom of the door.

  • Do not rely on one measurement

Take each measurement more than once and write them down clearly. If your measurements are close to a standard size, or you are unsure which size to choose, ask for advice before ordering.

If you are unsure, speak to our team or check with your fitter before placing your order. We can help guide you, but final measurements and fitting suitability remain the customer’s responsibility.

Door Builder FAQs

Using the Door Builder

How does the internal door builder work?

Start by choosing your door design, then enter your size, select the handing, and choose whether you need a handle. Once those details are added, you can review the configuration and add the door to your cart.

What measurements do I need before ordering?

You will need to enter the door width and height in millimetres. It is important to check your measurements carefully before placing the order, as each door is made to order.

Can I choose which side the handle goes on?

Yes. The builder lets you choose the handing, so you can select which side the handle will be on before adding the door to your cart.

Can I order a door without a handle?

Yes. The builder includes a no-handle option, so you can choose the setup that suits your project.

Orders, Lead Times & Options

Are these internal doors made to order?

Yes. All internal doors in the builder are made to order in the UK based on the options and measurements you enter.

How long does delivery take?

Lead time is up to 4 weeks. Orders can sometimes arrive sooner, but allowing up to 4 weeks gives the safest guide before ordering.

Can I change my order after payment?

Because these doors are made to order, changes may not be possible once the order has been processed. That is why the builder asks you to confirm your measurements and options before adding the order.

What add-ons can I choose with my door?

Optional add-ons include handles, latches and hinges, so you can configure the door with the extras you need.
