How To Improve Front Door security

How To Improve Front Door security

Mark Mitchell |

In the UK, 80% of burglaries target the doors. So it’s worth investing in the best security features for your front or back door.

How to Know if Your Locks Need to be Changed

  • If your lock is rusty, tarnished, or sticks when you use it, it has worn out over time and should be replaced. Older locks are easier to pick.
  • If you've bought a property, you should change the locks. You can't know how many people have had the old keys. It's possible that the existing locks would make your home insurance policy invalid if there was a break-in.
  • If you've had a break-in or lost your keys while you were out, always replace your locks. Your safety and valuables are worth the expense.
  • If you've recently hired contractors and gave them a key for easier access, you should consider changing the locks. Even if you trust them, keys can easily get lost or end up in the wrong hands during construction.
  • And lastly if your lock is NOT 3 star or above then it is very easy for a burglar to snap the lock and get in, most 3 star locks have the key going sideways not downwards

Low security 3 star                      High security 1 star

In addition to changing your locks you may also need to change your door handles. Some handles are made from soft cheap metal and can easily be bent with a pair of mole grips. Don’t make it easy for burglars they know what looks to look for and handles.
